Two newly completed paintings are shown here. These are juvenile asian carp, the color of which is described as “silvery.” I’ve always found it a challenge to paint a subject with a metallic luster because the way it looks is so dependent on what surrounds it. In these watercolor & gouache paintings, I try to represent the luster with a bright white highlight along the length of the fish contrasting with a dark back and belly.
