FAQ

  • What services do you offer?

I create custom natural science illustrations to help communicate messages. These include but are not limited to species illustrations, anatomy illustrations, ecological subjects, life cycles, and reconstructions of extinct life or aboriginal cultures.

I license many of my existing illustrations for various uses.

I also accept commissions from individuals for paintings of artifacts, invertebrate fossils, fish, and more.

  • Can I use your image for my personal project?

If your project is one of the following:

    • A personal school project created to receive a grade; the project will not be made available to the public online or in print
    • An educational not-for-profit PowerPoint (or similar) presentation given in front of a live audience and not subsequently made available to the public

…then you have my permission to use my illustration(s) for it, so long as  (1) you include a credit line in your project (“Illustration © Emily S. Damstra”) and (2) you are able to make do with the low resolution, watermarked image you found at my website.

If you require a high-resolution file, the minimum fee I charge is $50 per illustration. Please inquire.

  • Will you license your illustrations for commercial projects?

Many of the illustrations you see on my website are available for licensed reuse in commercial, educational, broadcast and exhibit applications. Please contact me for details. If you don’t see an image you’re looking for, I’d be happy to check my archives or quote the fee for new custom art.

  • What is the fee to license one of your illustrations?

The fee will depend on a few factors, including how the illustration(s) will be used and what size the illustration(s) will be reproduced. Please inquire. It helps if you offer as many specifics about your intended use as possible.

    The minimum fee is $50.

  • Do you sell original artwork and/or prints of your illustrations?

For illustrations created with traditional media, the original painting or drawing is often available for sale. Visit my Nature Art page.

Prints and notecards are available for a small selection of my art. You can find them here. You are welcome to request that I make a specific illustration available as a print.

  • I'm interested in becoming a science illustrator. Could I ask you some questions?
