I once did a series of butterfly illustrations for the Smithsonian National Zoological Park’s backyard garden exhibit, and the Baltimore checkerspot was one of them. If you live in the Baltimore checkerspot’s range (which includes much of the Midwest, New England, and Southern Ontario), consider planting White turtlehead (Chelone glabra) to attract this handsome butterfly.
