This Hydrozoans original artwork is archivally matted and framed with regular glass in a black wood frame.*
Hydrozoans are a group of marine invertebrates related to jellyfishes and corals. It was fun to see these hydrozoans come to life in white paint on a black surface when I illustrated them for Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia, 2nd edition. While working on this project, I learned that one of the species, Phialella zappai, has a great backstory behind the name. Read it here.
*The bottom two mitres on the frame are not as great a fit as they should be, and because of that the price reflects a discount. Personally, I don’t consider the frame to be unfit for display as is.
