This Ascidians original artwork is archivally matted and framed with plexiglass in a black wood frame.
So strange in their unfamiliarity, these sea squirts captivated my imagination when I illustrated them for Grzimek’s Animal Life Encyclopedia, 2nd edition. The primarily white paint on a black background with a black mat in a black frame lends a sense of otherworldliness to the work, in my mind. These marine invertebrates are filter feeders.
